We’re working hard to learn, share, preserve, and record Northeast Indiana’s Jewish family histories. Our goal is to make available a database of the area’s Jewish families online in this space.
To start with, we contributed information from our two local congregations to the JewishGen Memorial Plaques Data
base. Just the names from those two collections gave us a database of 2400 people.
We have also photographed gravestones at Lindenwood Cemetery and the Fort Wayne Jewish Cemetery on Decatur Road. We are in the process of updating and adding this information to JewishGen’s Jewish Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR).
In addition to the cemeteries, our volunteers have added vital records to the database, and are working through census records, obituaries, and personal recollections. We are also seeking out photographs of the over 7,400 individuals now included in our tree. We share our database with our members, and provide public “tours” at our annual “Meet Your Mishpocha” events.
